Bhansali and Alia in Talks to Revive Inshallah

Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt are reportedly discussing a reworked version of the shelved 2019 romance Inshallah, with the male lead still undecided.

Bhansali and Alia discuss a reworked Inshallah revival

Inshallah may finally get a second chance, but not as the film Bollywood fans were promised in 2019. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt are reportedly in talks to revive the long-shelved romance, with the material set for a substantial rework before any casting is locked.

According to a Mid-Day report cited by The Times of India, the actor-director duo is not simply reopening the old project. They are said to be examining the story afresh, keeping its basic premise but giving the love story a new treatment.

A third Bhansali-Alia chapter

If the discussions turn into a film, Inshallah would be their third collaboration after Gangubai Kathiawadi and the upcoming Love & War. That history matters: Alia has become one of Bhansali’s key collaborators, and the two are reportedly revisiting Inshallah after their experience on the period drama.

Alia’s current slate is crowded: Alpha released in July 2026 and Love & War is scheduled for January 2027. Yet the revival talks reportedly grew out of the working rhythm she and Bhansali built on the upcoming period drama.

The original 2019 announcement paired Salman Khan with Alia, and would have reunited Salman and Bhansali after two decades. It never went on floors after Salman’s exit and creative differences with the filmmaker.

Why the hero is still a mystery

The revival is not moving with a confirmed male lead. Bhansali is reportedly prioritising the screenplay before deciding who headlines the film. That opens a few paths:

  • Salman Khan is committed to other projects, including Raj and DK’s film.
  • Shah Rukh Khan, earlier speculated for the part, has not finalised his next after King.
  • A younger actor could also be considered depending on the rewritten script.

Alia appears central to the discussions, but the male lead remains an open question.

A script-first second life

The biggest change this time is the writing. Instead of dropping a new actor into the old version, Bhansali and Alia are reportedly discussing a version that reshapes the characters and narrative around whoever eventually comes on board. That aligns with Bhansali’s usual approach: lock the script and character arcs before finalising the ensemble.

For fans, the takeaway is to keep expectations flexible. This is not the 2019 Inshallah returning unchanged. It is a project that may finally move ahead because the story, not the star, is being put first.
