Drishyam 3 opens at Rs 176.50 cr; Hanuman Ansh holds 57%
Drishyam 3: The Conclusion opens with a Rs 176.50-crore weekend while the Rs 2-crore sleeper Hanuman Ansh holds 57% occupancy on fewer shows.

Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3: The Conclusion arrived on October 2 and immediately redrew the box-office map. On a massive 15,759-show opening day, the thriller collected Rs 62 crore in India nett. Its footprint kept growing: 16,868 shows on Saturday delivered Rs 53.50 crore, and 17,323 shows on Sunday delivered Rs 61 crore. By Sunday night, the opening weekend stood at Rs 176.50 crore.
The film has the usual ingredients for a big launch: a beloved franchise, Ajay Devgn and Tabu on screen, and the extended Gandhi Jayanti holiday weekend to turn buzz into footfalls.
Hanuman Ansh loses theatres, not interest
The most visible casualty of that screen grab is Hanuman Ansh, the quiet spiritual drama on Neem Karoli Baba. It had just completed its eighth Thursday on October 1 with Rs 2.90 crore from 4,345 shows at 19% occupancy, taking Week 8 to Rs 29.20 crore.
When Drishyam 3 landed the next day, Hanuman Ansh’s show count collapsed from 4,345 to 1,166. Collections dropped to Rs 2.25 crore. Yet occupancy jumped to 54%, which means the remaining shows were dramatically fuller.
The pattern held through the weekend. On Saturday, Hanuman Ansh collected Rs 2.10 crore from 1,339 shows at 39% occupancy. On Sunday, it recovered to Rs 3 crore from 1,399 shows at 57% occupancy. Fewer screens, smaller sums, but an audience that has clearly not left the building.
Occupancy tells the real story
This is where the box-office nuance sits. When a film loses thousands of shows overnight but its occupancy rises from 19% to 54%, demand is being concentrated rather than destroyed. It is the trade equivalent of a trimmed menu selling out faster.
Two journeys, one clear contrast
Placed side by side, the films are not true rivals. Drishyam 3 is a star-driven franchise opener. Hanuman Ansh is a sleeper hit, reportedly made on a budget of Rs 2 crore and led by Shobhinaw Satyaa, that has finished eight weeks and is now in its ninth. The fair comparison is behaviour, not raw collections:
- Drishyam 3: opened on 15,759 shows, kept adding screens, and closed the weekend at Rs 176.50 crore.
- Hanuman Ansh: was cut to 1,166 shows on Drishyam 3’s opening day but filled 54% of them, and touched 57% occupancy by Sunday.
- The signal: a shrinking show count is not the same as shrinking demand, especially for a word-of-mouth film.
What to watch next
For Hanuman Ansh, the real risk is access. If multiplexes keep trimming shows, fans may find it only in odd slots, so check listings before heading out. For Drishyam 3, the test begins after the holiday weekend, when its weekday momentum will show how deep the audience truly is.
