Garividi Lakshmi Trailer: Anandhi Leads Folk Singer Biopic
Garividi Lakshmi's new trailer traces a folk singer's rise, fame and betrayal. Anandhi leads; the film opens on October 17.

The first full trailer for Garividi Lakshmi has arrived, and it positions the film as something richer than a standard rise-to-fame biopic. The Telugu drama draws on the life of the real Uttarandhra folk singer Garividi Lakshmi, with Anandhi in the title role.
Directed by Gowri Naidu Jammu, produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Kriti Prasad under People Media Factory, and scored by Charan Arjun, the film is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 17.
The trailer arrives at a time when language is less of a barrier for Indian film audiences than it used to be. A strong musical story with a regional folk backbone can now find viewers far beyond its home state, especially when the promo carries subtitles and an emotional hook.
From troupe to public adulation
The trailer walks through the singer’s early years inside a burra katha troupe, the slow accumulation of recognition, and the moment she became a familiar name. Burra katha itself matters here: it is an oral storytelling and performance form from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, built on narration, music and live audience interplay.
By keeping that form at the centre, the film is not just using folk music as a backdrop. It is the engine of the character’s identity, and it gives the trailer a grounded, rustic texture that feels different from the glossier Telugu star vehicles.
The turn after the applause
What makes the trailer memorably uneasy is the second movement. After the singer’s rise, the story darkens: she is lured with promises of movie opportunities and then faces difficulties. That shift gives Anandhi room to play both the public artist and the private survivor, and the trailer suggests her performance is emotionally direct rather than overstated.
For viewers outside the Telugu states, this is an accessible entry point. The beats are familiar — talent, recognition, betrayal — but the setting and musical form make it specific.
What to keep an ear on
- Burra katha staging: the live performance sequences carry the cultural weight.
- Charan Arjun’s score: the music supports the drama instead of simply decorating it.
- The post-fame turn: the film appears built on struggle, not easy triumph.
Biographical dramas of regional performers have travelled well because they pair a live-performance soundtrack with a clear against-the-odds arc. Garividi Lakshmi seems to follow that template while giving its folk tradition top billing. If the full film holds the trailer’s balance between melody and betrayal, it could win attention well beyond its home audience.
