Honey Singh Seeks Time After Skipping Maharashtra Summons

The rapper has asked Maharashtra Cyber for more time after not appearing for questioning over alleged objectionable remarks at a concert.

Honey Singh Asks for More Time in Concert Remarks Case

Yo Yo Honey Singh, whose real name is Hirdesh Singh, has asked Maharashtra Cyber for more time to appear before the investigating officer. The rapper did not turn up for questioning on Monday in a case linked to alleged objectionable remarks made at a concert.

What Maharashtra Cyber wanted

According to The Times of India, the agency had summoned the singer after a complaint was filed over remarks made during a performance. When he did not appear as directed, his team sought additional time. The matter remains under investigation and further details are awaited.

The older song row that won’t go away

The fresh summons is not his first brush with legal trouble. In May, the Delhi High Court directed Honey Singh to file an affidavit after an organisation, Hindu Shakti Dal, moved a petition. The petition alleged that he sang an objectionable song during a performance at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in 2025.

On April 2, the court directed the Central Government to take down URLs of the song “Volume 1” from social media and sharing platforms. The bench said the track is “obscene, vulgar and derogatory towards women” and cannot be allowed in the name of artistic freedom and freedom of speech and expression.

The petitioner said the song was released in 2006 by Honey Singh and Badshah. During the hearing, the bench observed that it treated women as sex objects.

Why the court acted

Advocate Rupali Panwar, appearing for the petitioner, argued that the song is vulgar and easily available on social media platforms. She said it can be accessed even by young children, which is harmful, and asked that the song be removed immediately from YouTube and all sharing platforms.

It was also submitted that Honey Singh sang two lines from the song at a public concert at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on March 1, 2025.

  • Maharashtra Cyber summoned Honey Singh over alleged objectionable concert remarks.
  • He skipped Monday’s questioning and has requested more time.
  • The Delhi High Court has already ordered “Volume 1” URLs taken down.

For fans, the case is a reminder that old catalogue can resurface. For the industry, it sharpens the question of where artistic freedom ends and accountability begins.
