Ramayana set fire in Mumbai contained; no injuries reported
A minor fire in tents outside Prime Focus Studios was contained before it spread. FWICE calls it a set-safety warning as Ramayana: Rise of a Legend gears up.

A minor fire on the Mumbai set of Ramayana was contained before it could threaten the cast or crew, but it has left a bigger conversation about safety in its wake.
What happened at Prime Focus Studios
The fire started in tents outside Prime Focus Studios, where the Nitesh Tiwari-directed film is being shot. FWICE president BN Tiwari confirmed that no one was injured and the damage was minor. The flames were brought under control before they could spread to the main set.
- No injuries were reported.
- The damage was limited and described as minor.
- The fire began in tents outside the studio premises.
- Shooting resumed after the initial panic settled.
- TV shows Hustle and Pati Patni Aur Panga also use the same facility.
A warning that came too late
According to Tiwari, FWICE had reached out to producers after a recent fire at a nearby location and asked them to put proper safety measures in place. He said this latest incident happened because of carelessness.
“Fortunately, no one was hurt and the damage was also minor. However, this should serve as a warning to them and other film teams to be more careful and take adequate precautions against such accidents.”
Tiwari’s concern is not just about Ramayana. A facility that houses multiple productions has to protect everyone on its floors.
Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is readying for a global bow
The incident comes in a high-visibility marketing window. The makers recently revealed the subtitle Ramayana: Rise of a Legend and confirmed that the first instalment will release in cinemas worldwide on November 6 in Hindi and English. A new poster shows Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama facing Yash’s Ravana against a cosmic backdrop, with the tagline, “Mankind’s greatest story comes to life.”
The film is intended for an immersive 3D experience across standard screens, IMAX and Premium Large Formats. Alongside Kapoor and Yash, the cast includes Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Laxman, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Arun Govil as Dashrath and Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha. Namit Malhotra produces.
Why this matters for fans
A production of this size carries temporary infrastructure around it—tents for costume, equipment and holding areas outside the stage. A fire in one of those spaces, if not caught early, can damage gear and delay schedules. Here, early control meant no human cost and no reported disruption to the release plan.
Still, Tiwari’s warning is aimed at a trend. When multiple shows shoot at the same studio, a fire-safety failure can affect several crews at once.
What film teams can do now
For production teams, the immediate lesson is simple: temporary tents and electrical setups need to be checked before every schedule, and fire-safety equipment should be within reach at outdoor locations. A minor fire is survivable; a repeat at a bigger facility may not be.
