Maatrubhumi Skips April 17, Still Awaits Final Cut and CBFC

Salman Khan's Maatrubhumi missed its April 17 date and still has no final cut or CBFC submission. Ravi Basrur is scoring the film.

Salman's Maatrubhumi misses April 17, still no final cut

Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace has missed its planned April 17, 2026 release and still has no final cut, no CBFC submission and no confirmed theatrical date.

April 17 has slipped

The project was originally slated to open on April 17, 2026, but that date passed without a release. According to the latest report, the edit is still being shaped and changes are still being incorporated, while composer Ravi Basrur works on the background score at Octavia Studios.

Only after those changes are approved will the makers lock the final cut and send the film to the Central Board of Film Certification. Because certification has not begun, the team has not fixed a new release window.

From Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi

The film has already changed identity once. It was announced as Battle of Galwan, and in March it was given the title Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace along with a new poster. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salman Khan Films, the story is inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, with Salman as an Indian Army officer and Chitrangda Singh also in the cast.

The retitle and poster suggested a deliberate shift in how the film is being positioned, even while the edit remains in motion.

What still has to happen

  • Final cut: not locked
  • Background score: Ravi Basrur is still working on it
  • CBFC certification: not submitted
  • Release date: to be chosen only after certification

For fans, that checklist is the only meaningful timeline right now. A release date will come only when the makers have a finished version they are ready to submit.

Why the delay matters

For a star-driven theatrical film, the gap between final cut and release is not just about paperwork. Once the CBFC certificate is in hand, the makers still need time for trailer drops, music promotion and booking screens. That is why the team is unlikely to announce a date until after certification, not before.

The wait is frustrating for fans, but it also protects the film from another date slip. A locked cut first, then certification, then a launch plan is the safer sequence for a project of this scale.

Salman’s slate keeps moving

While Maatrubhumi waits for completion, Salman is also attached to an action drama tentatively titled SVC63, reported working title Monster, directed by Vamshi Paidipally and produced by Dil Raju. Nayanthara, Anil Kapoor and Arvind Swamy are reported to be part of the film, which is being positioned for Eid 2027. A superhero project with Raj and DK is also reported to be in the pipeline, and Salman is expected to continue hosting Bigg Boss 20.

For now, Maatrubhumi remains a film in post-production: closer to completion, but still missing the two stamps that turn a finished film into a dated release, a locked cut and a CBFC certificate.
