Balakrishna Resumes 111th Film Dada After Surgery

Nandamuri Balakrishna is back on set for Dada, his 111th film, after July knee surgery; the Telugu action drama targets a December 24 release.

Balakrishna's 111th Film Is Back in Action

Nandamuri Balakrishna is back on a film set in Mysore, and that is good news for Dada, his 111th film. After a knee injury halted the Telugu action drama, the actor has resumed shooting and the team is working toward its theatrical date.

From injury to recovery

In July this year, Balakrishna slipped while filming a difficult action sequence at Kakinada Port in Andhra Pradesh. The accident left him with a torn left quadriceps tendon and damage to the surrounding tissue. He underwent surgery on July 23; the roughly three-hour procedure reattached the tendon to the kneecap and repaired the supporting tissues around the knee.

The recovery has been swift. Balakrishna, now in his mid-60s, has often argued that mental focus matters as much as physical training. As he put it, ‘our mind holds far more strength than we realise.’ His view is that training the mind alongside the body can help an actor meet any physical demand a role requires.

What is happening in Mysore

Dada reunites Balakrishna with Gopichand Malineni, who earlier directed him in Veera Simha Reddy. The current schedule is focused on crucial dialogue sequences featuring the Akhanda actor, with the team planning to complete key portions despite the extended break.

Here is what the production has locked in so far:

  • Release date: December 24, theatrical.
  • Director: Gopichand Malineni.
  • Villain: Manchu Manoj, joined by an ensemble cast.
  • Tone: a violent, high-budget action drama with punchlines galore.

Why the comeback matters

Dada is positioned as a big commercial action drama, and its promotional tagline, ‘The King of Chaos’, signals the scale the team wants to sell. Balakrishna is known for relentless screen energy, high stamina and physical discipline, so his return is being read as a sign that the film’s fierce spectacle is back on track.

A December 24 slot also raises the stakes. Christmas is a marquee window for Indian cinema, and a star vehicle with a popular villain turn and an ensemble cast gives audiences a clear big-screen option. The team has not announced any change to the date, and the current schedule suggests they are finishing the film rather than rushing it.
