Nana Patekar died at 75 in Goa after a 2:30 am message to a friend and 45 minutes of CPR; a post-mortem will now establish the cause.

Nana Patekar dies at 75; post-mortem to confirm cause

Nana Patekar died at 75 in Goa on Thursday morning, leaving Hindi and Marathi cinema without one of its most commanding actors. The sequence of his final hours was pieced together by Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of Oncology at Manipal Hospital, who spoke after the actor was declared dead.

A 2:30 am message

Patekar first reached out to a friend around 2:30 am. The message was uncomplicated: he told the friend he was not feeling well, Salkar said. Because it was night, the friend did not see the message at once and called him instead.

When the friend arrived at Patekar’s Goa home around 4 am, the actor was sweating and slowly losing consciousness. The caretaker was sent to arrange an ambulance, and an emergency team arrived to find the actor unresponsive.

45 minutes of CPR

Patekar was taken to Manipal Hospital around 4:20 am. Medical staff began CPR at the house and continued cardiac massage after arrival. In all, doctors attempted revival for about 45 minutes before declaring him dead at 5:20 am.

Because Patekar was not a registered patient at Manipal, the hospital treated the case as medico-legal and informed the police. His body was moved to Goa Medical College for a post-mortem. The hospital has not confirmed a cause of death; Salkar said the post-mortem and police inquiry would establish the circumstances.

What the timeline tells us

The facts help separate what is known from what is still being investigated.

  • He messaged a friend around 2:30 am saying he was unwell.
  • The friend found him sweating and slipping away by about 4 am.
  • CPR continued for roughly 45 minutes before he was declared dead at 5:20 am.
  • The post-mortem and police inquiry, not the hospital, will determine the cause.

Why this matters to film fans

Patekar’s career spanned more than four decades across Hindi and Marathi films. He could carry the menace of Parinda, the moral force of Krantiveer and the dry comedy of Welcome without dropping character. For an audience that grew up on his dialogues and his silences, the loss lands even before the medical picture is complete.

The next authoritative update is unlikely to come from social media. Fans should wait for the post-mortem report or police findings before sharing any cause of death as fact.
