Prabhas Wishes Amitabh Bachchan on 84th Birthday
Prabhas wished Amitabh Bachchan on his 84th birthday, reviving their Kalki 2898 AD bond and director Nag Ashwin's comments on story over ego.

Amitabh Bachchan turned 84 on October 11, and the tributes that arrived from around the film industry doubled as a reminder of how widely his screen gravitas travels. One message in particular got fans talking: Prabhas, his Kalki 2898 AD co-star, posted a warm note on Instagram Stories.
“Wishing the legendary Amitabh sir a very Happy Birthday! Ever grateful for all the love u have shown..! Have a wonderful year…ahead sir.”
The words were simple, but they carried the affection of a cross-industry pairing that worked on screen because both actors were willing to play in service of a larger story.
The Kalki collision that made the wish land differently
Nag Ashwin’s 2024 blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD placed the two stars in a futuristic world built from Indian mythology. Amitabh Bachchan played Ashwatthama, the immortal warrior cursed to wander for thousands of years. Prabhas played Bhairava, a witty, money-minded bounty hunter whose arc connects to Karna.
- Amitabh Bachchan was Ashwatthama, bringing an intense, weathered physicality to the warrior.
- Prabhas was Bhairava, balancing humour with a tougher mythological identity.
- The ensemble included Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Saswata Chatterjee and Shobhana.
- Kalki 2 is officially in the works to continue the story.
Why Prabhas deserves credit for putting story first
During the film’s promotions, Nag Ashwin told Pinkvilla that Prabhas never seemed bothered about not being at the centre of every major moment.
“For a star of his stature, Prabhas has very little issues about things like this. He is fully for the story. Once he listened and okay-ed the story way back in the day, he has been fully onboard and very supportive,” the director said.
Nag Ashwin also remembered a scene where Amitabh’s character physically overpowered Bhairava. He called it a big deal for a mainstream hero in an industry where leads are often untouchable, and said Prabhas wanted the moment to feel real — reportedly adding, “Sir, hold me tighter.”
The sequel makes the birthday note feel like a promise
For fans, the birthday message is not just a polite gesture. It revives the goodwill around a pan-India film that treated mythology, action and star power as pieces of the same puzzle. With Kalki 2 in development, the bond between the two leads is now part of the franchise’s appeal.
That is the quiet value of a public birthday note: it keeps a working relationship visible and gives audiences a reason to return.
