Suriya’s Scene: Dravid Selvam denies visual impairment rumour

Dravid Selvam confirms Suriya does not play a visually challenged character in Jithu Madhavan's Scene; the film opens on November 6, 2026.

Suriya's Scene: writer denies visually impaired role

Suriya’s upcoming Tamil film Scene has been doing exactly what its title promises: creating a lot of conversation. Since the teaser arrived, viewers have been decoding his police-officer look and guessing what the film is hiding. The loudest online theory was very specific: that Suriya plays a visually challenged cop. Dialogue writer Dravid Selvam has now addressed that idea directly.

The rumour, and the answer

Speaking to Cinema Express, Selvam was asked whether Suriya’s character has a visual impairment. His answer was a blunt “No”. He also asked audiences not to believe rumours before watching the film. That clarification doesn’t give away the plot, but it removes a theory that had started to spread after the teaser.

Scene is directed by Jithu Madhavan, the Malayalam filmmaker behind Romancham and Aavesham. The teaser presents Suriya in a different look as a police officer, which is part of why fans began looking for hidden meanings in his appearance and body language.

Who else is in the frame

The film brings together artists from Tamil and Malayalam cinema. What the makers have shared so far:

  • Suriya plays a police officer in a new look.
  • Naslen makes his Tamil debut; online chatter that he plays the antagonist has not been confirmed.
  • Nazriya Nazim, Anand Raj and Lal are part of the cast.
  • Dravid Selvam, known from the Parithabangal YouTube channel, has written the dialogues.

That mix gives the film crossover appeal, and it explains why Tamil and Malayalam audiences are following even small updates.

Why the clarification matters

When a teaser is intentionally mysterious, fans understandably try to solve it. The danger is that a plausible theory can harden into an expectation. Selvam’s “No” is a small but useful course correction: it stops the visually impaired cop idea from becoming the default description of the film before its release.

The project is Jithu Madhavan’s third directorial feature after Romancham and Aavesham. His collaboration with Suriya is the primary draw, but the team is clearly guarding the plot. Selvam’s request to wait for the film suggests Scene is designed to surprise in the theatre rather than online.

Next stop: Diwali

Scene is scheduled to release in cinemas on November 6, 2026, placing it in the Diwali season, a major window for Tamil films. Until then, the safest approach is to treat all character theories as speculation. The teaser may offer clues, but the complete picture will only come when the lights go down.
