Mumbai: Saif Ali Khan appears to have finally made his official Instagram debut, but this is no glamorous celebrity arrival.

A blue tick without the drumroll

An account under the name Saif Ali Khan Pataudi has surfaced on Instagram with a blue tick, one post and around 2,000 followers at the time of writing. The account follows exactly one person: his wife and fellow actor, Kareena Kapoor Khan.

There is no elaborate introduction, no family photograph engineered to break the internet. Instead, the debut post points to the Pataudi Library, with photos of the actor reading and a caption that reads, “Pataudi Library.. Judging books by their cover…”

Why Saif’s quiet entry matters

For years, Saif has been the rare star comfortable off social media while Bollywood’s promotional machinery runs on it. Two years ago, he told Hindustan Times that he browsed Instagram through a private account but often found endless scrolling made him want to uninstall the app. More than the algorithm, he was wary of expectations: the pressure to project a personality, post regularly and push other people’s work.

“I don’t want to get stuck in a position where I have to post other people’s things,” he said at the time.

By joining with one post, no announcement and a follow list of one, Saif is treating Instagram as a personal archive rather than a second job.
