Kajol Revisits Anjali Look 28 Years After Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Kajol marked 28 years of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai by channelling Anjali Sharma's short hair and red jacket, and fans are feeling the nostalgia.

Kajol gave fans a warm rush of 90s nostalgia on October 16, marking 28 years of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai by slipping back into Anjali Sharma’s signature energy. In new pictures posted on X, the actor wore a red jacket, kept her hair short and went light on makeup – a direct echo of the tomboyish, restless Anjali from the 1998 blockbuster.
Her caption did most of the emotional work. “Can magic ever be recreated? Here’s Anjali a couple of years later,” she wrote, alongside the tags #28years and #KuchKuchHotaHai. The post landed like a time capsule for fans who have spent nearly three decades quoting the film’s dialogue, replaying its songs and relitigating its love triangle.
Red jacket, short hair, same ache
The look works because Anjali’s arc – from basketball-playing best friend to the woman who walks into the summer camp in a sari – remains one of Hindi cinema’s most familiar transformations. Kajol didn’t need to explain the reference. She simply wore it, and the audience completed the memory.
The debut that became a template
Released in 1998, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was Karan Johar’s directorial debut. It starred Shah Rukh Khan as Rahul Khanna, Kajol as Anjali Sharma and Rani Mukerji as Tina Malhotra, with Salman Khan making a special appearance as Aman Mehra. Friendship, unrequited love and second chances were braided into a romantic triangle that became a defining release of late-90s Bollywood.
Johar revisited the film on its previous anniversary, recalling a set “filled with love, too much banter, and happiness” and thanking audiences for continuing to give the film their affection. That affection is inherited: the film helped cement Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as one of Hindi cinema’s most loved on-screen pairs.
The playlist that still plays
Jatin-Lalit’s soundtrack is one of the film’s strongest endurance engines. A handful of tracks still turn up at weddings, college gatherings and retro parties:
- “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”
- “Koi Mil Gaya”
- “Ladki Badi Anjaani Hai”
- “Tum Paas Aaye, Yun Muskuraaye”
There is no re-release or reunion announced in Kajol’s update. What the anniversary does offer is a prompt: for long-time fans, an excuse to revisit the original; for younger viewers, a reason to understand why Anjali, Rahul and Tina still dominate Bollywood nostalgia conversations.
