Ranabaali Opens as BookMyShow Disables Reviews
BookMyShow has switched off reviews and ratings for Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's period action drama Ranabaali after a Bengaluru court order.

Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s period action drama Ranabaali is out in cinemas today, but one thing is missing on BookMyShow: the star rating. The ticketing platform has switched off reviews and ratings for the film, citing a Bengaluru court order.
What the court asked for
A Bengaluru court passed an ex parte interim order on Friday, directing several online platforms to remove specific content the Ranabaali team says is defamatory or false. A disclaimer on BookMyShow now tells users that reviews and ratings have been disabled in line with that order.
The order names X Corp, YouTube, Google India, BookMyShow, IMDb, Facebook India, Meta platforms and unnamed John Doe defendants. The court has not made a final ruling; the matter is listed for November 6.
Why the makers went to court
The production house says negative comments, reaction videos mocking the teaser and predictions of a flop began circulating after the teaser arrived on September 9. It alleges that anonymous accounts and bot networks coordinated a review-bombing campaign and encouraged a boycott.
That is the makers’ claim, not a finding by the court. But it points to a bigger friction: release-day ratings can shape a film’s fate within hours, and teams are increasingly willing to use legal tools to protect a title before it earns a public verdict.
What a viewer actually sees
- Reviews and ratings are disabled on BookMyShow for Ranabaali.
- The Book Tickets and I’m Interested options remain active.
- The case is next scheduled for a hearing on November 6.
- Jailer 2, which released a day earlier, has also had its ratings disabled on the platform.
That last detail matters because it suggests the platform has taken a blanket approach to legal requirements rather than singling out one title.
What to do before you book
With the star rating unavailable, your safest bet is to lean on full reviews from critics you trust, verified audience reactions after the first shows, and friends who match your taste. A missing rating is not a verdict; it’s a temporary gap. The November 6 hearing will show whether the freeze stays.
