Mirzapur Season 4 scripting begins; shoot timeline by early 2027

Gurmmeet Singh confirms scripting is underway after Mirzapur: The Movie, and Shweta Tripathi wants to explore new layers of Golu Gupta.

Mirzapur Season 4 is officially in scripting

Mirzapur fans, the wait has a shape now. Work on the fourth season of the Prime Video crime drama is officially underway, with director Gurmmeet Singh confirming that scripting has begun. The production timeline is expected to be finalised by early 2027, according to a Mid-Day report cited by The Times of India.

What the makers have confirmed

Singh had confirmed the scripting update in July to Variety India, after Mirzapur: The Movie opened. The fourth season was conceptualised and mapped alongside the film, and the story is set to continue from the events of the third season finale. In practical terms, that means the cliffhanger is the launchpad: Guddu Pandit imprisoned, Golu Gupta on the run, Beena playing a double agent, and the battle for the throne still open after Kaleen Bhaiya’s brutal betrayal.

Specific plot details, cast additions and a filming schedule remain under wraps. The early 2027 marker is for finalising production, not a release date—so the makers are putting script before schedule.

Why this update matters

After three seasons and a theatrical feature, this is the clearest signal yet that the series is not being retired in favour of films. For fans, the update offers a small set of certainties:

  • Season 4 is in scripting, not just being discussed.
  • The story will pick up from the Season 3 finale, not reboot the world.
  • Shweta Tripathi wants to return as Golu and sees the role as an evolving one.

Shweta Tripathi on Golu’s next layer

Shweta Tripathi has carried Golu Gupta from a reserved, studious young woman who believed in the power of education to a survivor shaped by loss, violence, power and revenge. The actor told the publication that Golu’s journey remains personal, because the character’s experiences have changed her and “she is still changing.”

Tripathi said she has grown as an actor while playing Golu, which makes the role feel less like repetition and more like returning to a person who has lived through more. Each return lets her understand what those experiences have done to the character. In her own words: “Every time I return to the character, I discover something new.”

That is why she wants to keep exploring what she called the “different sides” of Golu—an arc that has already moved from faith in education to survival, revenge and a fight for power.

The film’s box office keeps the conversation hot

The feature outing gave the franchise a strong commercial push. As per Sacnilk, Mirzapur: The Movie collected an India gross of ₹274.20 crore and a worldwide gross of ₹339.70 crore, with a reported India net of ₹230.45 crore. A worldwide gross of ₹339.70 crore is a substantial result for a streaming-first franchise moving to theatres, and it gives the Season 4 conversation extra momentum while the script is being developed.

What to watch for next

For now, the practical move is to rewatch the Season 3 finale and sit tight. Further details about the plot, cast and filming schedule are still to come, and the early 2027 marker is for production planning—not a release date.
