Ramayana drops a 1:55 Shiv Tandav glimpse of Yash’s Ravana

The Dussehra drop Rise of Asura reveals Yash as Ravana in a 1:55 Shiv Tandav Stotram unit; advance bookings are open for the Nov 5 Ramayana release.

Yash's Shiv Tandav glimpse for Ramayana sets the Dussehra stage

A Dussehra reveal that flips the spotlight

Dussehra is the day Lord Ram defeats Ravana, but the team behind Ramayana used the occasion to show why the king of Lanka is an opponent worth fearing. The new musical unit, Rise of Asura, runs one minute and fifty-five seconds and places Yash’s Ravana at the centre of a Shiva ritual.

The sequence opens with Ravana cutting his palm and applying a Tripund tilak, then moves into an aarti before a towering Shiva idol. From there, Yash breaks into the Tandav, and the edit cuts between his performance and glimpses of the ruler of Lanka in his most commanding moments.

A character piece, not a trailer

What makes this reveal smart is what it refuses to do. It does not lay out the whole epic. Instead, it sells one idea: Ravana’s devotion, fury and grandeur before the larger conflict takes over. That gives Yash room to build the character before audiences meet Ranbir Kapoor’s Lord Ram.

Yash has long been associated with larger-than-life screen moments, and this unit leans into that strength. Rather than introducing Ravana through dialogue, it lets his physicality, the chanting and A R Rahman’s arrangement carry the weight.

The voices behind the fury

  • Composer: A R Rahman
  • Lyrics: Dr Kumar Vishwas
  • Hindi vocals: Vishal Dadlani
  • Director: Nitesh Tiwari
  • Principal cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, Ravi Dubey

The unit is built on the Shiv Tandav Stotram, a hymn that connects Ravana’s devotion to Lord Shiva with the cosmic Tandav of creation, preservation and destruction. That association gives the reveal a gravity that pure spectacle could not provide.

Why this matters for the release

Ramayana is one of the most ambitious Indian big-screen retellings in years, and the campaign is now moving from tease to ticket window. Advance bookings are open across India, West Bengal has declared the film tax-free, and the worldwide release is set for November 5.

For film fans, the practical step is simple: watch the unit with the sound up, and if the first weekend matters to you, lock in your tickets early. A reveal this considered suggests the film will reward the big-screen experience.
