Tabu turns Mahanthi Jhansi Rani in first King100 glimpse

The first character glimpse from Nagarjuna's King100 casts Tabu as Mahanthi Jhansi Rani, reuniting the Ninne Pelladata pair for a 24 December release.

Tabu becomes Mahanthi Jhansi Rani in first King100 glimpse

Tabu’s King100 birthday reveal isn’t a soft-focus celebration. It’s a power shot. The makers of Nagarjuna Akkineni’s upcoming Telugu film used her birthday, 4 November, to drop the first character glimpse, and within seconds she is not just a star but Mahanthi Jhansi Rani, taking the oath of office with a stillness that does the heavy lifting.

What the glimpse actually shows

The promo keeps its focus tight: a political figure, composed and deliberate, walking into a room that already feels like it belongs to her. There is no song, no dance, no traditional heroine introduction. Instead, the film makes a point about character. In the glimpse she says there are two kinds of people — those who believe in hard work and those in luck — and that she hates luck. It is a simple line, but it frames Mahanthi Jhansi Rani as a woman who built her position rather than inherited it.

That framing matters for the audience. A first look is the studio’s argument for why this role deserves attention. Tabu’s measured intensity does not explain the plot; it promises a performance with calculation behind it.

Why the reunion is the real talking point

King100 is not just a political drama. It is the first time Tabu and Nagarjuna have shared a film since Aavida Maa Aavide in 1998. Before that, the 1996 blockbuster Ninne Pelladata made their pairing part of Telugu film memory. Nagarjuna’s birthday note leaned into that history, saying the audience would never forget the earlier character and now would remember her as Mahanthi Jhansi Rani. Nearly three decades later, the reunion gives King100 a built-in emotional hook for audiences who grew up with their earlier films.

For newer viewers, the glimpse has to work on its own. It does, mostly because it treats Tabu’s character as the centre of authority rather than a decorative addition to a hero-led film.

The film, the crew and the date

Written and directed by RA Karthik, King100 is produced by Annapurna Studios, the banner founded by Nagarjuna’s father, the late Akkineni Nageswara Rao. The technical line-up includes:

  • Music: Devi Sri Prasad
  • Cinematography: Raja Mahadhevan
  • Editing: Navin Nooli
  • Production design: Sathees Kumar N

The film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on 24 December 2026. That is a deliberate slot: a Christmas frame gives the film a long holiday window, but it also puts King100 in a competitive year-end corridor. The first glimpse has one job now — to make audiences choose a Telugu political drama with two veteran leads over whatever else is playing in the season.

What to watch next

If the first glimpse is the argument for Tabu’s character, the next material should reveal more about Nagarjuna’s role and the central conflict. Until then, the promise is clear: a reunion built on history, a female character written as formidable, and a production house leaning into its legacy.
