2023: A Year for Girlpower in Bollywood with Samantha and Priyanka Chopra’s Upcoming Releases

In recent times, films starring female leads have struggled to make an impact at the box office. However, 2023 seems to be the year for girlpower in Bollywood. According to a prominent source from the production, films featuring female heroes or sheroes are set to dominate the box office. In March, Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway, navigated by Rani Mukerji, proved to be a profitable venture for Zee Studios, marking their first profit-earning project since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Samantha‘s upcoming release, Shaakuntalam, is set to release in multiple languages on April 14. Reports from Hyderabad suggest that Samantha has given a remarkable performance in her first-ever costume drama. Her friend from Hyderabad has revealed that Samantha is stunningly beautiful, strong, and vulnerable in the role of Shaakuntalam. She is predicted to become a global sensation post the release of the film.

Towards the end of April, Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s Prime Video series Citadel will hit the screens, with insiders who have previewed the show suggesting that Priyanka will surpass her stunts in Quantico with her performance in Citadel.

The mighty Shabana Azmi, who has portrayed some of the most powerful sheroes in contemporary Indian cinema, is confident that films with strong female leads will always find an audience. Azmi stated that Rani, Tabu, Priyanka, and Samantha are all strong, beautiful women and terrific actresses, and Indian cinema will always have a place for them to shine.

With two true-blue sheroes set to make a grand impact in April, it looks like 2023 belongs to them. Moreover, with Ajay Devgn converting the role of the male cop in the Tamil film Kaithi to a female cop in Bholaa to give Tabu another powerhouse role, it appears that more women-led films will hit the screens in the coming years.
