The release dates of several Bollywood films have been shuffled around in the last 24 hours, and Ajay Devgn‘s Maidaan is the latest addition to the list. The sports drama, which was supposed to hit theatres on June 23, has been postponed for the eighth time, and is now set to release on Thursday, September 7. While the reason for the delay is unknown, it is speculated that the makers wanted to avoid a clash with other big-ticket releases.
Maidaan is based on the golden era of Indian football, between 1952 and 1962, and features Ajay Devgn in the role of Syed Abdul Rahim, a successful Indian coach. The film is directed by Amit Sharma and produced by Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios. With this new release date, Maidaan is expected to benefit from a four-day weekend, owing to the Janmashtami festival falling on the same day.
Interestingly, Maidaan has already gone through multiple release date changes, with earlier dates ranging from November 2020 to June 2022. The film also stars Priyamani and Gajraj Rao in pivotal roles. Fans will have to wait a little longer to catch Ajay Devgn’s much-anticipated performance in Maidaan, but the delay may just be worth the wait.
