Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has recently shared his perspective on the series of box office failures he faced in the past year. Despite a string of unsuccessful films, including Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Raksha Bandhan, and Ram Setu in 2022, as well as this year’s Selfiee, the actor has admitted that box office numbers do bother him.
During a conversation with Financial Express, Akshay Kumar was asked about the significance of box office numbers and their impact on him. He acknowledged, “Of course, they do.” He continued, “Hits and flops define our career in the film industry. Audiences’ response reflected in the box office numbers indicates whether our work resonated with them or not. If a film doesn’t perform well, it means people didn’t connect with it, and that’s when you need to introspect and make necessary changes.”
Reflecting on the ups and downs in his life, Akshay Kumar stated, “I have experienced various cycles of success and failure. One common factor is that during successful times, there is immense praise, and during tough times, criticism becomes overwhelming. Yes, I’m human, and positive feedback feels good, while negative feedback feels discouraging. However, I am proud of my ability to quickly move on. The driving force for me remains the same as when I first started working—I love my work! That passion cannot be taken away. One must keep moving forward; there is no other way. There is a higher power that witnesses everything and eventually rewards honest hard work. That’s how I deal with it.”
Looking ahead, Akshay Kumar has exciting projects lined up. He will be seen alongside Parineeti Chopra in the upcoming film The Great Indian Rescue, directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, scheduled for release on October 5. Additionally, he is set to star in OMG – Oh My God 2, alongside Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam, slated to release on August 11.
