In a recent interview, Ayesha Jhulka spoke candidly about her decision to quit acting and take a break from the Hindi film industry. The actor, who has acted in popular films like Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar and Himmatwala, revealed that she wanted to be known for her acting skills and not just as a “glam girl”. Ayesha shared that while her initial years in Bollywood were about doing the typical song-and-dance routines, getting romanced by the hero and looking beautiful, she eventually felt unsatisfied with the roles she was being offered.
Ayesha’s break from acting was a conscious choice, as she felt that if she associated herself with a project, she should be able to add value to it through her performance. When that wasn’t happening and she was being treated as a prop in a project, she knew it was time to put an end to those kinds of roles. Ayesha wanted an upgrade and hungered for work that tapped into her potential.
After a gap of some years, Ayesha made her comeback with Tanuja Chandra’s series Hush Hush in 2022. She also recently appeared in the web series Happy Family: Conditions Apply, where she acted alongside Raj Babbar, Ratna Pathak Shah and Atul Kulkarni. The series premiered on Prime Video in March and has received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.
Ayesha’s story is a reminder that every actor, no matter how successful, wants to be known for their acting skills and not just for their looks. It takes courage to take a break from the industry and wait for the right opportunity to come along. We are glad that Ayesha Jhulka has made a comeback and hope to see more of her on our screens in the future.
