Chiyaan Vikram Sets the Record Straight on Anurag Kashyap’s Claim about Kennedy; Kashyap Responds

In a recent development, actor Chiyaan Vikram has clarified that he never received any messages from director Anurag Kashyap regarding the film Kennedy. Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming noir-police drama has been making headlines, particularly due to its screening at the Cannes Film Festival 2023. Kashyap had previously mentioned reaching out to Chiyaan Vikram for the film, but Vikram claims to have never received any communication from the director. On Monday, the South Indian star took to Twitter to address the matter.

Anurag Kashyap had revealed in an interview that Kennedy was initially written with Chiyaan Vikram in mind, as the actor is often referred to by the nickname Kennedy. However, Kashyap stated that he did not receive a response from Vikram and subsequently approached Rahul Bhat, who eagerly accepted the role and dedicated eight months of his life to the film.

In his tweet, Vikram clarified the situation, stating that he had called Kashyap immediately after hearing from another actor that the director had been trying to contact him. Vikram explained that the mail id Kashyap used to reach out was no longer active, and his phone number had changed two years prior. Vikram expressed his excitement for the film and wished Kashyap success.

Anurag Kashyap responded to Vikram’s tweet, acknowledging the mix-up regarding their communication. He explained that after learning from another actor that he had been trying to reach Vikram, the actor personally called him. They discovered that there had been a confusion with their WhatsApp numbers. Kashyap mentioned that Vikram expressed interest in reading the script but, unfortunately, it was already locked and close to the start of shooting. Kashyap emphasized that his previous interview was merely about the backstory of how the film got its title, and there was no need for overreaction. He reassured that he and Vikram have a longstanding relationship, and they are likely to collaborate on a project together in the future.

This clarification from both Vikram and Kashyap puts an end to any misunderstanding and highlights their mutual respect and friendship in the industry. The focus can now shift back to the highly anticipated release of Kennedy and the recognition it is receiving at the Cannes Film Festival.
