Despite facing massive backlash and petitions seeking a restraining order against its release, the controversial film “The Kerala Story” has finally been released worldwide. The film, which revolves around a group of women from Kerala who join the ISIS, faced accusations of spreading hate propaganda against the state and hurting religious sentiments. However, the Kerala High Court refused to issue a stay order on the release of the film, stating that it carries an appropriate disclaimer and is certified by the CBFC to be fit for public consumption.
The film’s producer, Vipul Shah, and Sunshine Pictures Pvt. Ltd. were represented by Ameet Naik, Managing Partner of Naik, Naik and Company, who opposed any reliefs against the release and exploitation of the film. The courts observed that there is no allegation against Islam and nothing offensive to any particular community as a whole.
While the film continues to be mired in controversy, Adah Sharma‘s solid performance in the lead role has been appreciated by netizens. The film has been receiving immense support on social media despite the initial backlash it faced.
