Carry On Jatta 3, the recent Punjabi comedy film directed by Smeep Kang, has found itself in the midst of controversy as it faces allegations of hurting religious sentiments. A group of Shiv Sena leaders has filed a complaint at the Jalandhar police station, claiming that a scene in the movie disrespects and humiliates a Hindu priest, thereby offending the Hindu community.
According to the complaint, the leaders assert that the scene in question shows a Brahmin priest being mistreated, with water thrown on the ‘Havan Kund,’ a sacred ritual in Hinduism. The leaders have demanded that the actors, Gippy Grewal, Binnu Dhillon, and Gurpreet Ghuggi, as well as the director, be charged under section 295 for hurting religious sentiments. They further threaten protests if their concerns are not addressed within 24 hours.
As the controversy unfolds, neither the filmmakers nor the actors have responded to the allegations. The film, released on June 29, has garnered attention for all the wrong reasons, stirring a debate on artistic freedom and religious sensitivity. The coming days will reveal how this dispute unfolds and if a resolution can be reached between the parties involved.
