Trade experts are predicting that Salman Khan‘s upcoming film “Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan” (KKBKKJ) will not be affected by the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) buzz. While the IPL generates a lot of interest among viewers, trade pundits believe that films and cricket can co-exist, and the lack of major film releases during the IPL season this year may even boost interest in the cricket matches. Trade analyst Girish Johar noted that there are no major releases during the IPL, so the impact on box office collections is likely to be minimal. However, Akshaye Rathi pointed out that the merits and demerits of a film ultimately determine its fate, regardless of other factors such as the IPL.
As for Salman Khan’s film, which is set to release on April 21, trade experts are cautiously optimistic. The exact date of Eid, which traditionally falls on a holiday and has been lucky for Salman Khan’s releases in the past, is yet to be announced by the religious authorities. If Eid falls on a Friday, the film is expected to have a good opening, but if it falls on a Saturday, the opening may be more moderate. Nevertheless, trade analyst Rathi predicts an opening of 15+ crores, considering Salman Khan’s stardom and the anticipation around his return to the box office after four years on Eid.
In terms of the overall box office performance in the first quarter of 2023, films like “Pathaan” and “Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar” have contributed to respectable earnings, with “Pathaan” alone contributing 75% of the earnings so far. Trade expert Atul Mohan highlighted that the first quarter of 2023 has been better than the previous year due to successful releases, but the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 had caused significant losses in the box office earnings. However, with upcoming releases like “Mission Impossible” and “Fast & Furious,” trade experts are hopeful that audiences will continue to return to theaters in large numbers.
