Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut found herself in hot water after making a joke about US President Joe Biden and the 14th Dalai Lama that offended members of the Buddhist community. The controversial joke was made on Instagram and featured an edited photo of Biden with the Dalai Lama, with the caption “The Dalai Lama receives a warm welcome at the White House.” Ranaut’s addition to the post was “Dono ko same bimari hai, definitely dono ki dosti ho sakti hai” (Both have the same illness, both can definitely be friends).
After receiving backlash from the Buddhist community, Kangana Ranaut took to her Instagram stories to apologize for her comments. She expressed that it was a harmless joke and she did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments. She also clarified that she believes in Buddha’s teachings and holds nothing against anyone. She further added that the Dalai Lama has spent his entire life in public service and that she respects him.
Despite her apology, a group of Buddhists protested outside her office in Pali Hill. Kangana Ranaut shared a video of the protest on her Instagram stories and requested them to go home. The actress has previously faced controversies for her statements on various issues.
On the work front, Kangana Ranaut will be seen in her upcoming political drama Emergency, which she has directed and produced under her banner Manikarnika Films.
