The latest Bollywood release, “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” has been garnering love from audiences, but it has also sparked discussions and disagreements online. Some netizens expressed their disapproval of a parallel love story in the film involving Jamini Chatterjee and Kanwal Lund, played by Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra, respectively. As the grandparents of the film’s leads, Rani and Rocky (Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh), these characters pursue a brief relationship in their younger days, despite being married to others.
In response to the ongoing debate about infidelity, director-producer Karan Johar defended the love track, describing it as a ‘pure’ emotion. At a recent press conference, Karan explained, “Those seven days of relationship were so pure and beautiful that it stayed with her (Jamini) for a lifetime. Instead of dwelling on infidelity, it was an incomplete feeling because they sacrificed their feelings for the sake of their families.”
He further emphasized that the film portrayed the complexity of love and the sacrifices made when societal norms come into play. The emotional depth of the characters, as envisioned by Karan, reflected the essence of Gulzar saab’s lines, “Pyaar kahan poora hota hai uska pehla shabd hi adura hota hai (how can love be complete when its first letter is incomplete).”
While the film continues to captivate audiences with its multi-layered storytelling, it also ignites conversations about the intricacies of relationships and the shades of love that shape human experiences. “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” beautifully explores the fine line between passion and responsibility, making it a thought-provoking cinematic journey for viewers.
