The recent success of the Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan starrer, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, has taken the box office by surprise. While many big-budget films have struggled to make an impact, this moderately-budgeted comedy drama has surpassed expectations, crossing the 30 crore mark within just five days. With a projected lifetime collection of over 50 crores, the film’s success can be attributed to various factors, including its engaging trailers, compelling content, and captivating music.
During the success press conference of Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, director Laxman Utekar addressed the challenges faced in releasing the film on short notice. He also voiced his disagreement with the belief that the movie’s success was solely due to the buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer provided through the BookMyShow app.
Laxman Utekar shared, “Fifteen days ago, I received a call from producer Dinesh Vijan, asking if the copy would be ready. I assured him it would be. He then asked, ‘In how many days?’ When I replied, ‘In 10 days,’ he inquired, ‘Can it be done in 8 days?’ And I said, ‘Yes, that can be done too.'”
Highlighting the significance of bringing a film to the audience, Utekar added, “Creating a good film is one thing, but ensuring its reach is a whole different challenge. Initially, the industry expressed skepticism, questioning how it could be done in 15 days and suggesting that the film had secured a release date by chance. But all doubts were silenced. I thank Dinesh Vijan for opening the doors of the theaters. It was commonly believed that only films with a grand scale could succeed. However, you have proven that a film with strong content can also thrive in cinemas.”
Expressing his frustration with the misconception surrounding the film’s success, Utekar exclaimed, “Everyone is quiet in the industry. Nobody knows what’s really happening. Some people are saying, ‘The film is running only because of the 1+1 free offer.’ But if you sell rotten tomatoes and claim to offer half a kilo free with each kilo, will even a dog take it? When the product is good, people will buy it even without a free offer. People come to drink water from a well, but who will drink it if the water is contaminated?”
The success press conference was attended by Vicky Kaushal, Sara Ali Khan, and producer Dinesh Vijan, along with Laxman Utekar. The team celebrated the film’s unexpected triumph and addressed misconceptions surrounding its achievements, emphasizing the importance of quality content in driving success at the box office.
