In a significant development, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has decided not to challenge the bail granted to Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty in the drugs case related to the untimely demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Rhea Chakraborty was arrested on September 8, 2020, by the NCB and was later granted bail on October 4, 2020.
The drugs case against Rhea alleged her involvement in a ‘drug dealers’ syndicate that supposedly facilitated the purchase of drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput. However, the actress was granted bail, and the NCB informed the Supreme Court that they are not contesting this decision. The court emphasized that the judgment would not serve as a precedent for other cases but has left the question of law open.
Previously, the High Court had ruled that Rhea was not part of any drug dealing and had not forwarded drugs to anyone for monetary or other gains, clearing her of any punishable offence under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act). With this latest update, Rhea Chakraborty can now breathe a sigh of relief, putting an end to a chapter that had been closely followed by the nation.
