The ownership dispute over the historic Raj Kapoor Haveli located in Peshawar’s Qissa Khwani Bazaar has been dismissed by a Pakistani court. The Haveli, once owned by the family of legendary Indian actor, producer, and director Raj Kapoor, was declared a national heritage site by the provincial government in 2016. The court referred to a previous judgement made in a similar case related to the Dilip Kumar Haveli and requested evidence to support the Kapoor family’s ownership or residency in the Haveli. The petitioner claimed that his father had successfully bid for the mansion in 1969 and had retained full ownership until the provincial government initiated an acquisition process. The decision marks a significant win for heritage conservation efforts and ensures the preservation of the iconic property.
