T-Series, the renowned film production company, has issued an official apology to Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah over a controversial dialogue featured in the highly anticipated film, Adipurush. The dialogue in question referred to Sita as the ‘daughter of India,’ which triggered objections from Mayor Shah, leading to the imposition of a ban on the movie in Kathmandu. The decision subsequently gained support from other cities in Nepal, including Dharan and Pokhara, who raised concerns about the distortion of Nepalese history and culture.
Acknowledging the controversy surrounding the dialogue, T-Series promptly responded by expressing regret and assuring Mayor Shah that the inclusion of the objectionable dialogue was unintentional. The production company emphasized that necessary changes have been made to rectify the issue and requested the ban on Adipurush to be lifted.
In a letter addressed to Mayor Shah, T-Series clarified that the mistake had been rectified, and there was no intention to offend or misrepresent any historical or cultural aspects. The production company highlighted the corrective measures taken to address the concerns raised by the authorities, indicating their commitment to resolving the issue.
Initially, Mayor Shah imposed a ban on Adipurush in Kathmandu due to the contentious dialogue, demanding its removal from the film. Additionally, he extended the ban to all Indian films in the city, effective from June 19. Dharan Mayor Harka Sampang also supported the ban, echoing similar concerns about the portrayal of Nepal’s history and culture. Similarly, the Pokhara Metropolitan City joined the movement by implementing a ban on the screening of Indian films in solidarity with Kathmandu.
In response to Mayor Shah’s notice, T-Series promptly made the necessary alterations to Adipurush within the given timeframe, demonstrating their commitment to addressing the concerns raised by the authorities. With the corrective measures implemented, T-Series now seeks the ban to be lifted, expressing hopes for a resolution and a smooth release of the film in Nepal.
Stay tuned for further updates on the Adipurush controversy as T-Series and the concerned authorities work towards resolving the issue and ensuring the film’s uninterrupted screening in Kathmandu and other cities of Nepal.
