Veteran actor Rohini Hattangadi recently shared a heartwarming incident from the shoot of the 1990 hit film, Agneepath, in which she played the role of Amitabh Bachchan‘s mother. Hattangadi revealed that during the shoot, her mother-in-law fell ill with cancer and was undergoing treatment. As a result, she had to halt the shoot and tend to her family. However, producer Yash Johar, who was known for his kind gestures, stalled the shoot for nearly 10 days until Hattangadi was ready to return to work.
In an interview with Rajshri Unplugged, Hattangadi shared that she was committed to the film but couldn’t begin the shoot due to her family crisis. She added that Yash Johar was a “gem of a person” who never cribbed about money and told her secretary that he would wait for her to return.
The actor recounted that her mother-in-law’s condition worsened, and she had to call her husband Jayadev, who was in Delhi for a play’s direction. Eventually, her mother-in-law passed away, and on the 13th day, Hattangadi returned to the set. She expressed gratitude towards Yash Johar for waiting for her and giving her the opportunity to play one of her all-time favorite roles alongside her favorite actor, Amitabh Bachchan.
The heartwarming incident is a reminder of the humanity and kindness that still exists in the entertainment industry, where production deadlines and schedules often take precedence over personal issues. It is a testament to Yash Johar‘s character as a kind and compassionate producer who cared about his cast and crew as individuals, not just as artists.
