Salman Khan: My Life Will Go to My Grave, No Biopic Ever
On Koffee With Karan Season 9, Salman Khan named four directors for a hypothetical biopic, then said his life story will never be told.

On Koffee With Karan Season 9, Salman Khan played the hypothetical game — then closed the door. Karisma Kapoor asked which director he would pick if his life were ever filmed, and Salman offered four very different answers before insisting that the project itself would never happen.
The exchange is a small one, but it lands differently in a Hindi cinema era where biopics and authorised portraits have become a dependable format. For a star whose screen image is larger than life, Salman is drawing a firm line between the roles audiences can own and the history he keeps to himself.
Four directors, one clear no
Salman did not dodge the question. He imagined a director for each register of his life:
- David Dhawan for a comedy on his life.
- Sanjay Leela Bhansali for a traditional tragic love story.
- Sooraj Barjatya for a beautiful love story after love story.
- Kabir Khan for an action-flavoured love story woven around the events of his life.
Then he undercut the exercise. “But a biopic of my life will never be made. My life will go to my grave,” he said. It was a playful answer followed by a serious boundary.
He has held this line before
This is not a new position. At the 2017 launch of Sania Mirza’s autobiography, Ace Against Odds, Salman told PTI that he had no plans to write about his own life. The reason, he explained, was the past itself: returning to it could reopen old wounds. As he put it, “Nahi toh bohot saare graves khul jayenge” — otherwise a lot of old wounds would open up.
Why the refusal matters
A Salman Khan life story would be a massive commercial event in theory. By rejecting both a film and an autobiography, Salman is keeping his off-screen history out of the market. Fans still get the star on screen — but not the life story packaged and sold as the official version. Each director choice also showed how he understands the many registers of his own career: the comedy years, the grand tragedy, the family romance and the action-love blockbusters.
No final film either
Karisma also asked which actress he would want as his co-star if he ever made his last film. Salman shut that down quickly. “Last film not happening yet, bro. Not yet,” he said, and Karisma agreed there is a long way to go. Next, audiences will see him in Maatrubhumi, a patriotic war drama.
