Dil Raju’s Ranbir-Ranveer Slip-Up at Ramayana Event

Distributor Dil Raju mixed up Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh on stage at the Ramayana event, then apologised fast. Here's the moment and why it blew up.

Dil Raju Mixes Up Ranbir and Ranveer at Ramayana Event

At a grand Hyderabad event for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, distributor Dil Raju was mid-compliment when he said a name that no one missed: he called Ranbir Kapoor “Ranveer Singh garu,” then quickly corrected himself. The moment has become the first viral talking point of the film’s Diwali campaign.

The Hyderabad event brought together producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari, Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi and Ravi Dubey—a sign that the team is now in full campaign mode.

What happened on stage

Dil Raju was outlining the release plan for the two-part epic when the slip happened. The distribution structure is now clear:

  • North India: Karan Johar
  • Hollywood market: Sony Pictures
  • Telugu-speaking states: Dil Raju

He also pointed out that this would be his third Ranbir Kapoor film in the region, after Brahmastra and Animal. Then came the gaffe. Referring to the actor, he said, “The best hero is Ranveer Singh garu, sorry, Ranbir Kapoor Garu.”

The camera cut to Ranbir, who kept a straight face and gave little away, while the audience laughed. A clip quickly spread on social media.

Why fans are divided

Ranbir and Ranveer have long been caught up in fan-driven comparisons, so the slip-up landed somewhere between honest mistake and awkward timing. Some users found it funny, while others felt it should not have happened at an event meant to build confidence in a film this size.

One social media comment offered a practical reading: never hand the mic to someone who has not rehearsed, especially without a teleprompter.

Why this matters for the film

Ramayana is a two-part adaptation of the Hindu epic, arriving this Diwali. Ranbir plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash plays Ravana, Ravi Dubey is Lakshman, and Sunny Deol is Lord Hanuman. With that kind of casting and scale, the event was as much about reassuring audiences as announcing dates.

The gaffe does not change the release map or the cast, but it does show how quickly a launch event can shift the conversation. For marketers, it is live-event risk in action: the unscripted moment travelled faster than the planned announcement.

What to do with the moment

If you are looking forward to the film, this is not a reason to worry. Watch the clip, enjoy the correction, and keep an eye on the actual campaign beats. For event teams, the takeaway is simple: brief speakers on names and have a calm recovery line ready.

Expect more unscripted moments as the film’s promotions intensify. The main story is still that Ramayana has its distribution locked and is on its way to cinemas.
