Jailer 2 at Rs 541 crore in six days, Rs 64 crore from record
Jailer 2 has grossed Rs 541 crore worldwide in six days and needs about Rs 64 crore to overtake the original's Rs 604.74 crore lifetime total.

Jailer 2 is no longer chasing a strong opening; it is chasing the first film’s lifetime record. Six days after its October 15 release, Rajinikanth’s sequel has grossed Rs 541 crore worldwide, leaving a gap of about Rs 64 crore to overtake the Rs 604.74 crore total that Jailer posted in 2023.
The day-six numbers at a glance
Trade tracker Sacnilk put the India nett total at Rs 287.80 crore after Tuesday, October 20, with Rs 45.55 crore nett coming from 15,529 shows. Crucially, that single day was higher than Monday’s Rs 42.35 crore nett—a 7.6 per cent rise at the point in the week where big openers usually begin to cool.
- India nett: Rs 287.80 crore
- India gross: Rs 337 crore
- Overseas gross: Rs 204 crore
- Worldwide total: Rs 541 crore
Why the overseas number stands out: the original Jailer finished with Rs 196 crore from international markets as part of its Rs 604.74 crore lifetime gross. The sequel has already gone past that overseas lifetime mark in under a week, which is why the worldwide record is now a genuine question rather than a fan wish.
Holiday heat is doing some of the work
The film arrived on a Thursday, then ran into the Dussehra period. That calendar placement gave it an extended first stretch, and Tuesday’s numbers suggest the festive footfalls are still supporting the run. With Dussehra ending on October 21 and school holidays potentially carrying demand through Sunday, October 25, the sequel could clear Rs 600 crore before the second weekend is over.
The harder test begins on October 26, when the holiday cushion disappears. A sequel can have a huge first week and still stall if weekday audiences do not return. That is why the second-weekend hold matters more than the opening total: it tells us whether the film has a long run in it or simply had excellent timing.
Word of mouth and crossover cameos
Rajinikanth’s return as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian is the headline act, but the film’s mass moments, comedy and the presence of Shiva Rajkumar, Hrithik Roshan and Mohanlal have broadened the conversation beyond the core fan base. For a film that needs repeat viewing and family audiences, this kind of word of mouth is practical fuel.
It is also a reminder that a Tamil film can draw from multiple markets and multiple audience pools; the worldwide number is built from that mix.
Rs 600 crore is near; Rs 1,000 crore is another story
The sequel needs about Rs 63.74 crore more to top the original’s Rs 604.74 crore lifetime gross. At the current pace, that is achievable. But the jump to the Rs 1,000-crore club would need another Rs 459 crore after that, which depends on sustained collections for several more weeks.
For fans, the next checkpoint is simple: watch the second-weekend numbers. If they hold, the original’s record falls and the four-digit conversation gets serious. If they fall, the sequel has already done enough to be called a hit—but it will stop short of history.
