Varun, Janhvi confront KJo on Koffee With Karan 9

The couch gets personal

Koffee With Karan Season 9 heads into its third episode with a different kind of guest list energy. The freshly released teaser puts Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor opposite Karan Johar, and the conversation is not the usual set of safe, sparkling soundbites. Instead, both actors are shown revisiting a real period of distance from the host.

Varun brings up a stretch of silence after their disagreement and says it left him hurt. Janhvi keeps the mood playful but makes the same point, joking that she gained weight while things were strained. Varun completes the filmi circle by comparing Karan’s dramatic streak to Amitabh Bachchan’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham patriarch Yashwardhan Raichand.

That reference is doing a lot of work. It frames Karan as the head of a family rather than just a host, which makes the confrontation feel more emotional and more Bollywood at the same time.

Arjun Kapoor changes the rhythm

The teaser shifts when Arjun Kapoor walks in midway through the segment. The presence of a third guest turns the episode into a warmer, faster group hang. In the rapid-fire exchange, Varun is asked whose advice he trusts most among his contemporaries. He names Arjun for both marriage and career guidance, which doubles as a small statement about their friendship.

Janhvi then brings up politician-actor Ravi Kishan’s social media presence, and the couch reacts with quick laughter. It is a lighter beat, but it keeps the episode rooted in the kind of current references the audience follows daily.

• The big draw: Varun and Janhvi address their past fall-out directly.
• The surprise: Arjun Kapoor joins mid-episode for the rapid-fire round.
• Where to watch: Wednesday at 7:00 PM on JioHotstar’s The Peacock Hub.

Why this matters for fans

Koffee With Karan has always been built on the idea of a close, glamorous circle. That format works best when the cracks are visible. Letting Karan’s own guests question him changes the balance, and it gives the season a kind of emotional stakes that trivia games and impersonations cannot create on their own.

The timing adds to the interest. Varun was last seen in David Dhawan’s comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which released in theatres on June 5, 2026 with Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. Janhvi’s latest theatrical release was Peddi, a 2026 film led by Ram Charan. Both actors arrive on the couch after big-screen runs, which gives their conversation a natural nostalgic edge.

The third episode streams Wednesday at 7:00 PM on JioHotstar (The Peacock Hub), with new episodes following weekly. If the promo is a true signal, this is the week the show’s usual game becomes a conversation about real relationships.
