Jailer 2 tops rivals with Rs 348.85 crore in 9 days

Nine days in, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 has turned a quieter second Friday into a box-office marker. The sequel added Rs 14.50 crore nett in India on Day 9, pushing its domestic total to Rs 348.85 crore and leaving it just short of the Rs 350 crore mark.

Day 9 by the numbers

The latest trade update, citing Sacnilk figures, puts the worldwide total at Rs 628.05 crore. A quick look at the domestic run so far:

  • Day 9 India nett: Rs 14.50 crore
  • Nine-day India total: Rs 348.85 crore
  • Worldwide total: Rs 628.05 crore
  • Opening-day India nett: Rs 59.70 crore from 15,887 shows
  • Worldwide advance bookings by end of October 14: Rs 80 crore plus

The first week had already carried the film past Rs 300 crore nett in India, closing at Rs 334.35 crore. The second Friday figure, while lower, was enough to move the total forward and set up the weekend.

Passing Border 2 and Hanuman Ansh

The Day 9 total now places Jailer 2 ahead of two reported lifetime domestic hauls: Border 2 at Rs 329 crore and Hanuman Ansh at Rs 339 crore. For fans who track box-office bragging rights, that is the headline: a film still in its second weekend has outgunned two rival titles’ full runs.

That matters because the week had a natural slowdown after the long festive break. Even with that dip, Jailer 2 found enough audience interest to cross the rivals’ totals. It is the kind of hold that signals a film is not simply coasting on opening-weekend hype.

What the second weekend could do

With the weekend underway, trade watchers expect collections to climb. If business picks up as expected, the India total could move closer to Rs 380 crore. The next milestone, Rs 350 crore nett, is already within reach.

The film’s performance also keeps the spotlight on Rajinikanth’s enduring pull. Directed and written by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 brings back characters from the 2023 hit Jailer, with Rajinikanth joined by Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Rithvik, SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Vidya Balan, along with cameo appearances from Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff.
