Daler Mehndi’s family hits back after ₹35 lakh stage row
Gurdeep Mehndi responds to the viral Uttarakhand stage row, Mika Singh defends Daler, and the minister stands by his ₹35 lakh lip-sync claim.

The viral clip from New Tehri has a follow-up now. Daler Mehndi’s son Gurdeep Mehndi has responded to the on-stage confrontation between his father and Uttarakhand cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal, calling the episode “very unfortunate” and thanking the industry and fans who stood by the family.
Gurdeep Mehndi speaks
In an Instagram video, Gurdeep addressed the camera and said he was outside India when the incident happened. When he later checked in on his father, Daler Mehndi told him he was “first class” and doing fine.
Gurdeep acknowledged that the family is under strain. He said he had mentioned his father’s response in a show, and that remark became another talking point. “Obviously we are stressed, and we as a family together are dealing with it,” he said. He thanked the film industry and his uncle Mika Singh, and asked fans to keep supporting them. He closed with the line he attributed to his father: “God takes care of the rest.”
What happened in New Tehri
Daler Mehndi was performing on Sunday night at the Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair. The minister stopped him midway through the act and questioned whether he was in any condition to sing, with a clip of the moment spreading quickly online.
Speaking to ANI later, Subodh Uniyal defended his action. He said the singer seemed disoriented, appeared unable to stand properly, and was only lip-syncing to his songs. He added that Daler Mehndi had been offered ₹35 lakh for the performance but was not singing, so he expressed his resentment.
Mika Singh and the family’s side
Mika Singh had already posted on Instagram last Wednesday, thanking singers from Bollywood and Punjab for their support. He was direct about the minister’s suggestion of intoxication: Daler Mehndi does not drink alcohol, he said, so the allegation was completely wrong.
Mika also said both brothers received a call from Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who apologised on the minister’s behalf and assured them they would always be welcome in the state.
For fans, the row is a mess of two very different claims. Here is what each side is saying:
- The minister’s account: a ₹35 lakh fee, apparent disorientation, and lip-syncing on stage.
- The family’s account: a sober artist who was startled by a public reprimand, with an apology later offered by the chief minister.
- The artist’s request: keep the love coming and leave the rest to a higher power.
Why this row is landing hard
Live shows are a major part of a singer’s connection with fans, and a politician’s public rebuke cuts straight into an artist’s professional reputation. When the disagreement is about whether someone performed properly, the audience is left to weigh the official’s word against the family’s. In this case, the ₹35 lakh fee makes the dispute feel concrete: the minister argues the state paid for a live show and got something less.
The family has chosen a softer public line, leaning on gratitude and faith rather than a legal or aggressive rebuttal. That may help cool the story, but the viral clip has already done its work.
