Kartik Aaryan’s Captain India revisits the 2015 Yemen rescue
Kartik Aaryan steps into the cockpit for Shimit Amin's Captain India, an actioner inspired by India's 2015 Yemen rescue, bound for an Aug 13, 2027 release.

Kartik Aaryan is stepping into the cockpit for Captain India, the new actioner that is now being filmed in the UK under director Shimit Amin. Backed by T-Series, Baweja Studios and Aaryan’s own Dopamine Studios, the project has locked a theatrical release date of August 13, 2027.
A real rescue mission becomes a film
The film is inspired by India’s 2015 evacuation effort in war-torn Yemen, when the country brought home its own citizens as well as people from other nations. Aaryan plays a pilot tasked with carrying out a rescue while conflict escalates around him, making this a dramatic shift into full-blown action territory.
Sources describe the mission as “one of the toughest rescue missions” the country has carried out, and the film frames it as a high-stakes race against time. The Houthi conflict serves as the backdrop, though the exact way the screen story connects to the real events is being kept under wraps for now.
The pieces are in place
- The lead: Kartik Aaryan as a pilot with an impossible evacuation to complete.
- The director: Shimit Amin, filming now in the UK.
- The producers: T-Series and Baweja Studios, with Dopamine Studios attached.
- The release window: August 13, 2027, in theatres.
That gap between production and release points to the scale the team is chasing: an evacuation story needs location work, special effects and a lot of set-piece planning to land convincingly.
Why this one matters for Aaryan watchers
Aaryan is in an interesting phase. He recently won a National Award for Chandu, starred in Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and has Naagzilla lined up with Dharma Productions. Captain India could be the all-out action vehicle that tests whether the actor’s fan base will follow him into a grittier, mission-driven space.
Shimit Amin’s involvement adds reason to pay attention: his strength has long been grounding mainstream stories with a sense of realism, which is exactly what a rescue thriller needs. If the production gets its tone right, Captain India could become a big-screen event and not just another star-led action film.
The human hook
What could set this rescue story apart is that it is not a fictional war with a smirking villain. It is pulled from a real evacuation in which ordinary people were the prize. If the film keeps that emotional weight at the centre, it could give Aaryan room to stretch in a new direction.
The Houthi connection may remain a mystery for now, but the promise of a grounded, mission-driven actioner is enough to keep this one on the watchlist.
