Janhvi Kapoor on Shikhar’s Quiet Move After Sridevi’s Death
On Koffee With Karan 9, Janhvi Kapoor recalled how Shikhar Pahariya left his London studies and moved to Juhu in case she needed him after Sridevi died.

On the new season of Koffee With Karan, Janhvi Kapoor shared a detail about Shikhar Pahariya that reframes the way fans see their relationship. It was not a big public declaration. It was a practical, almost invisible decision made during one of the hardest months of her life.
He put his own plans on pause
Janhvi recalled that Shikhar was studying in London when her mother, Sridevi, died in Dubai on February 24, 2018. According to Janhvi, he took roughly half a semester off and returned to Bombay. He initially stayed with his father in town, then moved to a friend’s house in Juhu for about a month.
She said she only discovered later what was going on. As Janhvi put it, his thinking was: “In case she needs me, I just want to be around.”
The timing made it especially fragile
At that point, Janhvi and Shikhar were not officially dating. Sridevi’s passing also came just months before Janhvi’s big-screen debut in Dhadak, so she was dealing with grief and a career launch at the same time.
Karan Johar, who hosts the show, said he had witnessed some of that quiet support first-hand, which is how the conversation came up.
The gesture, in sequence
- Shikhar paused his studies in London and flew back to Bombay.
- He stayed in town with his father before shifting to a friend’s Juhu home.
- He remained there for around a month, without making himself the focus.
- Janhvi learned the reason only much later.
A quieter kind of relationship story
Bollywood relationships are usually read through airport appearances, social-media posts and event appearances. Janhvi’s story works differently: the most telling chapter involved no cameras, no announcement and no ask.
It also shows how support can look when someone is mourning. Instead of trying to fix things, Shikhar removed the distance, stayed nearby and left the choice to reach out in Janhvi’s hands.
Why the bond still holds attention
Janhvi has previously said Shikhar has been a part of her life since she was 15 or 16. She has described the connection as being built on shared dreams and mutual support rather than headline-grabbing moments. This latest story fits that pattern: the defining choice was the one made away from cameras.
For fans who follow their appearances and Janhvi’s affectionate nickname for him, “Shiku,” the reveal adds context rather than drama. It is a reminder that some of the most meaningful support never asks for credit.
