Nooru Kodi Vaanavil Skips Theatres for ZEE5 Diwali Premiere

Sasi's romantic drama Nooru Kodi Vaanavil will premiere on ZEE5 on November 6 as a Diwali release after skipping theatres.

Nooru Kodi Vaanavil goes to ZEE5 for Diwali, skipping theatres

After a long wait, Sasi’s romantic drama Nooru Kodi Vaanavil is finally getting a release date — just not on the big screen. The film, starring Harish Kalyan and Siddhi Idnani, will premiere on ZEE5 from November 6 as a special Diwali title.

The announcement ends a drawn-out journey that included pandemic-era delays and a planned theatrical release that never happened.

Why the film is going straight to OTT

During a recent interaction with Behindwoods, director Sasi said the decision to skip cinemas had nothing to do with the film’s creative side. Instead, it came from the production team, which believed a direct digital premiere would deliver better results.

“For some reasons, which we could not say or avoid, there was no creative side to it,” Sasi said. “From the production side, they felt that bringing the film directly to OTT would give us better results. So, we were happy that the film was released.”

A ‘child’ finally reaches viewers

Harish Kalyan explained the emotional weight of the wait by comparing a film to a child. “A film is like a child. There is a pain when it does not reach anyone,” he said. “That is very difficult.”

He added that the team did not insist on a theatrical release. Now that the film is on an OTT platform and being watched, the actor said, the team is happy that their product has finally been released.

For Sasi, though, the feeling is closer to relief than celebration. “What you say about the film after watching it will make us happy,” he said.

A delayed route to release

The film features Kovai Sarala, Thambi Ramaiah, Chinni Jayanth and Sampath Raj in key roles. Production was hit by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the team could not travel to Mumbai for a planned schedule. Sasi said portions were shot in Goa, while the Mumbai schedule remained pending, adding to the delay.

  • Release: ZEE5, November 6, as a special Diwali premiere
  • Cast: Harish Kalyan, Siddhi Idnani, Kovai Sarala, Thambi Ramaiah, Chinni Jayanth, Sampath Raj
  • Director: Sasi
  • Reason for OTT: A production-side call, not a creative one

Direct-to-OTT premieres have become a familiar fallback for completed South Indian films that lack a firm theatrical window. For a romantic drama, a streaming debut during a festival weekend can be a practical way to reach audiences without fighting for screens.

For fans who have been tracking this title, the wait is nearly over. The film lands on ZEE5 on November 6, and the makers are watching the reaction closely.
