Suriya thanks Dhanush as Scene gets a clear Diwali

Suriya thanked Dhanush for moving OM: Chapter 1 out of Scene's Diwali release path, and fans cheered to keep The One title alive.

Suriya thanks Dhanush for clearing Scene's Diwali weekend

Suriya’s upcoming film Scene is heading into Diwali with less crowding. At the film’s audio and trailer launch, the star thanked Dhanush for moving OM: Chapter 1 out of the holiday window, giving the Jithu Madhavan-directed action-comedy a clearer run when it opens worldwide on November 6, 2026.

A box-office truce

Dhanush’s OM: Chapter 1 had initially been planned for October 16, 2026. That date changed once to avoid Jailer 2, and then again so the film would not compete with Suriya’s Scene during Diwali. Suriya acknowledged the move directly, offering Dhanush what he called his “heartfelt thanks” in a remark carried by Cinema Vikatan.

This matters beyond politeness. A festival window is one of Tamil cinema’s most valuable release slots, and a two-star pile-up can split screens and showtimes. With Scene now the clear Suriya event of the Diwali frame, it has more room to build word of mouth.

‘The One’ stays for now

The launch also became a quick fan referendum. Suriya asked whether he should keep using the moniker “The One,” which has followed him since Karthik Subbaraj’s Retro. The audience’s loud approval settled it, and Suriya agreed to retain the title.

It was a fitting moment in a 29-year relationship with fans. Suriya also recalled a blood donation camp that brought together 5,000 people, an effort that started with his promise to take photographs with donors.

A tribute to an early mentor

Suriya used the platform to honour composer Deva, who scored his first film, Nerukku Ner. He remembered the song “Aval Varuvala…” and credited that early start with helping his journey. He also offered prayers and condolences to Deva’s family.

What Suriya wants from Scene

He praised Jithu Madhavan’s earlier worlds in Romancham and Aavesham, welcomed Nazriya back to Tamil cinema after 12 years, and singled out Naslen’s Tamil dubbing. Suriya described the film’s blend as murder, mystery, psychosis and comedy, urging viewers to watch without expectations and leave the theatre happy.

  • Scene: Stars Suriya, Nazriya and Naslen; directed by Jithu Madhavan; opens worldwide on November 6, 2026.
  • OM: Chapter 1: Features Dhanush and Mammootty; an action thriller around the illegal red sandalwood trade; its release was moved again to avoid the Diwali clash.
