Shashwat Sachdev in talks for Jr NTR’s Dragon after Rs 300 cr run

After Dhurandhar's Rs 300 crore music business, composer Shashwat Sachdev is reportedly in talks for Jr NTR's Dragon; the makers have not confirmed.

Rs 300 cr music run puts Shashwat Sachdev in Dragon talks

Shashwat Sachdev is reportedly being considered to score Jr NTR’s upcoming Telugu film Dragon, directed by Prashanth Neel. The buzz arrives off the back of the Dhurandhar franchise, whose music has made Sachdev one of Hindi cinema’s most talked-about composers. The makers have not confirmed the report yet.

The Dragon whisper

If it happens, Dragon would be Sachdev’s second major Telugu project. He is already being launched into Tollywood by producer Abhishek Agarwal with The India House, a period saga starring Nikhil Siddhartha and Sai Manjrekar. Agarwal told Deccan Chronicle he does not have details on the Dragon talks but wants Sachdev to do more Telugu films and, in his words, ‘raises the bar of Telugu cinema.’

Agarwal added that the composer has delivered four songs for The India House. Three have already been shot, and each one is, in his words, ‘different and refreshing’ for the period saga.

The numbers that built the buzz

Sachdev’s standing is built on the commercial pull of Dhurandhar. Here is what the reports put on the board:

  • Rs 300 crore — the music business the Dhurandhar franchise reportedly powered, with Sachdev at the centre.
  • Rs 1,350 crore — roughly what Dhurandhar collected at the box office.
  • Rs 1,850 crore — around what its sequel brought in.
  • Four — the songs Sachdev has reportedly created for The India House, each with its own musical style.

Agarwal pointed to the spread from Mann Atkeya to the title track as proof that the franchise had a song for every kind of listener across the two albums.

Why this matters for fans

A crossover composer is not just a new name on a poster. They arrive with a fanbase, a signature sound and a track record that can pull listeners into a film before its first trailer drops. For Telugu cinema, which balances mass action with strong musical identity, Sachdev’s Hindi-film momentum could bring a fresh texture — if the reports turn into an official announcement.

The franchise is now streaming on Netflix, which keeps the album in circulation well beyond the theatrical run, and a possible Dragon collaboration would extend that reach further.

That is part of a larger filmi pattern: a strong album no longer lives only inside one language market. As film music travels through reels and streaming playlists, a composer’s hit becomes a portfolio that other industries can hear before they sign the next project. For Hindi film fans, Sachdev’s possible Dragon move is also a reminder that Tollywood’s biggest action canvases are actively courting the composers behind Hindi blockbusters.

What to watch next

Until the Dragon makers confirm the news, this remains a strong industry whisper rather than a signed deal. The useful signal is that Sachdev is being courted across language industries, and his Telugu debut through The India House will be the first real test of how his sound translates.
