Kanika Kapoor Confirms Split After 4 Years of Marriage

Singer Kanika Kapoor has confirmed her split from Gautam Hathiramani after four years, denying any third-party involvement and asking for privacy.

Kanika Kapoor confirms split after 4 years

Kanika Kapoor has ended the guessing game around her personal life. After fans noticed her wedding pictures had disappeared from Instagram, the 48-year-old playback singer confirmed that she and businessman Gautam Hathiramani are separating after four years of marriage.

The announcement was direct and brief. Kapoor asked for privacy and immediately set out to shut down the loudest speculation: that a third person was involved.

A second divorce, handled directly

“After much thought and consideration, my husband and I are going our separate ways,” Kapoor said in her official statement. She added that she is grateful for the time they shared and wishes him well.

In an interview, she made the position even clearer. “I have not found anybody else and to the best of my knowledge, neither has Gautam,” she said. For Kapoor, a second divorce brings “its own grief and disappointment”, a line that matters because she has been through this before.

Pushing back on the blame game

The split had already produced its share of speculation. A report citing friends of Hathiramani said he was devastated by the break-up. Those friends said he had long understood that Kapoor was independent and travelled often for performances — sometimes flying between St Tropez, London and Mumbai in a single week — while work kept him in Lagos.

Kapoor called the Lagos angle unfair. “To say that I did not want to stay in Lagos is not true,” she said, adding that women are often blamed first when a marriage falls apart. In her view, only two people in a marriage know what actually happens inside it.

From friendship to marriage to separation

The couple married in London on May 20, 2022, after being close friends for several years. It was an intimate ceremony at a five-star hotel, attended by family and close friends.

Kapoor was previously married to London-based general practitioner Dr Jaspreet Singh Chandok. They divorced in 2012, and she raised their children — Aayana, Samara and Yuvraj — as a single mother. The singer, originally from Lucknow, found breakout success with “Jugni Ji” in 2012 and became a household voice with “Baby Doll” in 2014.

  • Married: May 20, 2022, in London
  • Split announced: November 2026, after four years
  • First divorce: 2012, from Dr Jaspreet Singh Chandok
  • Known for: “Jugni Ji”, “Baby Doll”, “Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan”, “Genda Phool”

What comes next for Kapoor

Kapoor said she is currently in Mumbai, working on three projects. She has three children to care for, and she hopes her future interactions with Hathiramani stay amicable. “I am not an aggressive person,” she said, adding that she believes he would wish the same.

For fans, the reminder is simple: the music does not pause for the private life. Kapoor’s catalogue — from “Jugni Ji” to the pop hit “Baby Doll” — is still what made her a familiar voice. This split is a chapter, not the whole story.
