Karan Johar calls Ramayana Part 1 a Miracle

Karan Johar watched Ramayana: Part 1 on release day and called the epic a miracle, praising Ranbir Kapoor's Lord Ram and Yash's Ravana.

Karan Johar calls Ramayana Part 1 a cinematic miracle

A high-profile Bollywood verdict has arrived for Ramayana: Part 1, and it comes from Karan Johar. The film, among the grandest big-screen adaptations of the Indian epic, opened in theatres on November 5. Karan watched it on release day and shared a long Instagram note calling the experience ‘no short of a Miracle’.

A moment-by-moment salute

Karan congratulated producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari for pulling off a vision that most people can only dream about. Describing the story as one ‘immersed in our cultural veins’, he said watching it as cinema still left him blown away.

His praise for the cast was precise and personal:

  • Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram — he called the performance meditative and said the actor’s eyes did the heavy lifting, making divinity feel believable without frills.
  • Sai Pallavi as Sita — he found her convincing and said the portrayal made him believe in the strength of sacrifice and love.
  • Yash as Ravana — he described the star as commanding attention every time he appears, with special applause for the sequence of Ravana’s many inner voices.
  • Ravie Dubey as Lakshman — he praised the warmth of a loyal brother brought to screen.

Sunny Deol plays Hanuman in the film.

Why this praise matters

Karan Johar is not promoting the film; his note reads as a filmmaker reacting to a peer’s ambitious project. That admiration arrives on release day, when undecided family audiences are choosing where to spend a theatre outing.

He also went beyond performance notes: he said the team had inspired him ‘to be brave’ and to stand for conviction as a creator. For a mythological retelling that has to balance faith, scale and storytelling, that is a meaningful compliment from someone who understands the economics and the emotion of Hindi cinema.

What to watch for

Karan ended by urging audiences to watch the film with their families. The note points to three things worth looking for in the theatre: Ranbir Kapoor’s restrained Ram, Yash’s screen-commanding Ravana, and the inner-voice sequence around Ravana.

The next test is whether audiences echo the enthusiasm. Early peer reaction has set a strong tone; now the box office will show if the devotion travels beyond the industry.
