Anurag Kashyap joins Chiranjeevi’s Kaaka for Jan 13, 2027

Anurag Kashyap has joined Chiranjeevi and Bobby Kolli's action thriller Kaaka in a powerful, pivotal role, as the film targets Sankranti 2027.

Anurag Kashyap boards Chiranjeevi's Kaaka in a pivotal role

Anurag Kashyap is continuing his busy second innings as an actor, this time stepping into one of Telugu cinema’s most anticipated action thrillers. The makers of Kaaka have confirmed that the filmmaker-actor has joined the film alongside Chiranjeevi, with director Bobby Kolli at the helm.

The announcement came with a behind-the-scenes picture from the Hyderabad set. In it, Kolli is seen explaining a scene to Kashyap. The caption from the team kept the tone suitably dramatic:

“THE WORLD OF KAAKA JUST GOT DEADLIER. Welcoming @anuragkashyap10 Sir on board in a POWERFUL & PIVOTAL ROLE.”

No specific character name has been revealed yet, but the word “pivotal” and the film’s action-thriller scale suggest Kashyap will not be in a blink-and-miss appearance.

A production that is already moving fast

The latest schedule began on September 7, and shooting is currently underway in Hyderabad. Reports add that dubbing has started after a traditional pooja, with other post-production work running in parallel. Kashyap is part of the ongoing schedule, which suggests the team is locking key scenes with the full cast.

This is Kolli’s second collaboration with Chiranjeevi after Waltair Veerayya. Anaswara Rajan and Nivetha Pethuraj are also on board, with more casting announcements expected.

What the teaser has already set up

The early footage gives away just enough to keep fans debating Chiranjeevi’s identity in the film. Some days ago, the star reportedly said he would be seen as Kadiri Kalidas, but the teaser introduced him as Satyam, a supervisor at Ammaji Aqua Industries. That gap is doing a lot of the film’s mystery work right now.

  • The teaser places Satyam among workers from different parts of the country.
  • A key falls into a shrimp pool and Satyam uses a giant electromagnet to pull it out, along with several weapons.
  • The keychain reads “I love dad,” hinting at an emotional backstory beneath the action.

There is also a major action sequence planned towards the end of the first half, with the interval fight being positioned as one of the highlights.

Why this casting matters

Kashyap has been selective about the acting roles he takes in the South, and each one tends to bring an extra layer of texture. Adding him to a mass action film like Kaaka does two things: it gives the film a recognisable face for Hindi movie fans, and it signals that the role will be more character-driven than a standard antagonist slot.

For Chiranjeevi fans, the bigger event is the reunion with Kolli, and the dual-name tease around his character. The film is already aiming for the lucrative Sankranti window on January 13, 2027, so the team has time to build the campaign, but the casting announcements are clearly being used to keep momentum high.

For now, the picture from the set is enough: two filmmakers, one star, and a thriller that is steadily adding reasons to stay on the radar.
