Atlee Has a Rajinikanth Film in Mind, but Raaka Comes First

Atlee has put a Rajinikanth collaboration back into the conversation, but fans should read the fine print. During a media interaction for Baththa, which he is presenting with his wife Priya Atlee, the director confirmed that he has an idea for a film with the superstar. He also made it clear that no plan is in motion yet.

What Atlee actually said

Atlee framed the possibility as a creative spark, not a project. “Until I finish and release a film, I do not concentrate on anything else,” he said. “Therefore, I am yet to think about my next film.” In other words, a Rajinikanth film is a maybe, not an announcement.

One film at a time, by design

Atlee explained that his working style has always been sequential. He pointed to his own filmography as proof:

• Raja Rani was finished before he started planning Theri.
• Theri was finished before he moved on to Mersal.
• Raaka must be completed and released before he decides his next move.

He also plans a two-month break after Raaka releases, to analyse the film, understand what worked and identify mistakes before choosing another project. That break makes a Rajinikanth decision even further away.

Why the comment still matters

Rajinikanth and Atlee is a pairing fan circles have openly wished for, so even a qualified “not yet” travels. Atlee’s answer keeps the door open without promising a start date. It also gives audiences a useful benchmark: after Raaka releases and the post-release break ends, any next-film chatter will be far more meaningful.

Where the focus is now

The immediate priority is Raaka, Atlee’s first directorial with Allu Arjun, with Deepika Padukone in a key role. The project is being planned as a large-scale science-fiction and fantasy entertainer, and it recently received a Guinness World Records recognition for a real-time motion capture technology achievement. No release date has been announced.

For now, the practical read is simple: do follow Raaka for timeline clues; don’t expect a Rajinikanth announcement until that film is out and Atlee has taken his post-release break.
