Delhi HC Seeks Salman Khan’s Response in Kala Hiran Row

Delhi High Court has issued notice to Salman Khan after Kala Hiran makers asked to pause his release challenge, arguing parallel litigation.

Salman Khan gets Delhi HC notice in Kala Hiran legal battle

The Delhi High Court has asked Salman Khan to respond to the makers of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, who want his challenge against the film’s release put on hold. Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani issued the notice on Tuesday, adding a fresh layer to a dispute that is now partly about whether two legal battles are really the same one.

Why the film’s team wants a pause

Producer Amit Jani opposed Khan’s plea to stop the release and promotional material. His core argument is that the actor is seeking similar relief in two separate proceedings, and that the latest case amounts to parallel litigation over the same project.

Jani told India Today that the notice was premature. “It is not a biopic on Salman Khan,” he said, adding that apart from a poster, nothing about the film has been revealed. The production also submitted that the film has not been certified by the censor board and is not ready for release.

A timeline of the dispute

  • December 2025: Khan secured an interim order in his favour in a personality-rights suit.
  • July: The High Court directed the removal of the film’s teaser and related social media posts after Khan objected.
  • This week: The court sought Khan’s response to the makers’ plea to pause the new release challenge.

Khan has accused the filmmakers of sensationalising the blackbuck-linked controversy to attract attention at the cost of his reputation. His application for specific protection against the proposed film remains pending.

Why this matters

This is more than a release-date fight. It tests where a celebrity’s personality rights end and a filmmaker’s freedom to dramatise public events begins. The makers argue that public events connected to the blackbuck case cannot be locked away through personality rights; Khan’s side says that line is already being crossed.

The notice does not settle the dispute. The court will now consider Khan’s response before deciding whether the new challenge should continue or be paused in favour of the earlier suit.
