Imran Khan’s OTT comeback faces delay after Oct 28 notice
Imran Khan's Netflix comeback Adhure Hum Adhure Tum, co-starring Bhumi Pednekar, faces a possible delay after an Oct 28 notice to leave India.

Imran Khan’s much-awaited return to the screen has run into an unexpected legal hurdle. Adhure Hum Adhure Tum, the Netflix film that was meant to mark his comeback alongside Bhumi Pednekar, is now being discussed for a possible delay—not because of production trouble, but because of a notice asking Khan to leave India.
Why the December 18 plan is suddenly shaky
The film had been aiming for a December 18, 2026 launch on Netflix, with promotions planned to begin after Diwali. Director Danish Aslam’s project was seen as Imran Khan’s formal return after nearly a decade away from Bollywood.
On October 15, 2026, Khan received a notice from Mumbai Police and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office directing him to leave India by October 28. The notice came after he joined an October 10 protest at August Kranti Maidan, where he was detained and released the same day.
Sources told Mid-Day that the production team is now weighing a deferment. Since Netflix had not officially announced the December date, the makers have room to adjust quietly. For now, this is a possible postponement, not a confirmed one.
What sits behind the legal notice
Khan is a US citizen and an Overseas Citizen of India card holder. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has alleged that his presence at the protest violated OCI conditions and visa rules. The notice, as reported, invokes the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.
The actor’s legal team is preparing to challenge the notice before the Bombay High Court. That makes the October 28 deadline a serious pressure point, but not necessarily the final word.
Star comebacks run on visibility. A decade away means a lead actor has to do interviews, appearances and social media pushes to rebuild familiarity. If the legal challenge stretches on, the film loses a promotional runway that was timed around Diwali and the year-end holidays.
What fans should watch next
For audiences, the practical question is simple: will the release hold, or will the comeback wait?
- Release date: December 18, 2026, planned but not officially announced by Netflix.
- Notice: October 15, with an October 28 deadline to leave India.
- Promotions: paused after Diwali until there is more clarity.
- Next step: Khan’s legal team plans to move the Bombay High Court.
If the court gives relief quickly, the film could still stick to its December window. If not, Netflix and the makers may have to decide between waiting for Khan or reshuffling the release. Co-star Bhumi Pednekar and director Danish Aslam are, for now, watching the same clock as everyone else.
