Industry Rallies Behind Daler Mehndi After Uttarakhand Stage Row
Mika Singh, Palash Sen, Kapil Sharma and more defend the veteran singer after a minister reportedly confronted him on stage in Uttarakhand.

A performance at Uttarakhand’s Kunjapuri Mela has turned into a public defence of veteran singer Daler Mehndi, after a cabinet minister reportedly confronted him on stage over allegations of alcohol consumption.
What reportedly happened in Tehri
Daler Mehndi was performing at the Kunjapuri Mela in Tehri when Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal reportedly walked up to the stage to question him over the alcohol claims. A clip of the exchange quickly began circulating, and the conversation soon shifted from the stage to social media.
Mika Singh’s video defence
On Tuesday, October 20, singer Mika Singh shared a video on Instagram defending Daler Mehndi. He said the singer does not consume alcohol and pointed to Daler’s long public life as evidence, asking whether anyone had actually seen him with a glass. Mika also revealed that Daler had been unwell and had recently undergone major surgery, saying he spoke up as a brother and friend even though Daler had asked him not to share the health details.
He argued that artists often honour commitments despite poor health, sometimes performing with high fever, and questioned why the star was being judged without giving his side. In the post’s caption, Mika asked: “Would anyone dare to behave like that with an international band like Coldplay?”
The industry pushes back
Daler responded warmly to Mika’s video, thanking him for standing by him. The support did not stop there:
- Kapil Sharma wished Daler a speedy recovery and criticised those spreading unverified claims for views.
- Shaan described Daler as the “Original Rockstar”.
- Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh sent love to the family and called it a dignified artist family.
- Palash Sen wrote about how easily people behind screens forget the human behind the icon, adding: “Daler Paaji doesn’t touch alcohol, never did, never will.”
Why this matters for fans
The supporters are not only defending Daler; they are asking a larger question about how Indian artists are treated. Mika’s Coldplay comparison in the caption is really about equal respect: international stars are often given the benefit of the doubt, while local legends can be judged mid-performance before their side is heard.
For viewers, the practical guide is simple: pause before sharing a viral stage clip, look for a verified statement from the person concerned, and remember that even legends fall ill or have bad days. A thirty-year body of work deserves at least as much patience as a thirty-second video.
