Rakul Preet Singh Says Tax Paid Since Age 20, Denies IT Search Link

Rakul Preet Singh refutes reports linking her to an Income Tax search, denies foreign remittances and benami property, and asks media to retract unverified claims.

Rakul: 'The search was not pertaining to me'

Rakul’s statement: ‘The search was not pertaining to me’

Rakul Preet Singh has rejected reports linking her to an Income Tax search around foreign remittances and benami property. In a statement posted on Instagram, she described the stories as ‘false and speculative’ and asked media outlets to take them down.

‘The search was not pertaining to me,’ she wrote. ‘Let it be known that I am from the Armed Forces background & had no Godfather in the Industry.’

She also made the tax position personal: ‘I have come up through sheer hard work & as a responsible law abiding citizen have been paying my due taxes since the age of 20 years.’

What the actor has denied

Addressing the specifics, Singh said she has not been involved in any illegal foreign remittance, either personally or for a production house. She added that she does not hold benami property for anyone in India or abroad.

A benami property is one held in someone’s name while another person supplies the money, often to hide the real owner. Singh said no one has gifted her property, and that she avoids accepting expensive gifts as a matter of principle.

  • No illegal foreign remittance in her personal capacity or for any production house
  • No benami property held for anyone in India or abroad
  • No property received as a gift

Why the reports surfaced

The denial comes days after Income Tax teams searched 12 Mumbai premises connected to prominent film industry names, including veteran producer Vashu Bhagnani, his son Jackky Bhagnani, and Panorama Studios.

Rakul is married to Jackky Bhagnani. The Bhagnani family is associated with Pooja Entertainment, while Panorama Studios is a separate production and distribution company. The operation reportedly examined financial transactions, film financing records and allegations of overseas fund transfers.

Facts over commercial pressure

Singh asked online reporters and mainstream journalists to correct the record. She said commercial pressures are understandable, but accuracy cannot be sacrificed.

‘I understand that everyone running a media business, however big, has their own commercial pressures. But it cannot come at the cost of facts. And certainly not at the cost of someone’s reputation and livelihood,’ she wrote.

For fans, the statement matters because it draws a clear line: the actor is choosing to rebut the rumour directly instead of staying silent while investigation headlines circulate.
